My son was diagnosed with autism in 2002; he was diagnosed with Tourette's in 2007. As a mother, I have learned how to identify services, individualize interventions & advocate for my son's educational needs, providing him with accommodations throughout school and college. Our journey has given me the inspiration and determination to become a therapist and advocate for children, adolescents and adults living with autism, ADHD and learning disabilities. He is and always has been my greatest teacher.
Mental Health Assessments which guide recommendations are completed through extensive interview and incorporating multiple sources of information. I have experience assessing and treating depression, bipolar, anxiety, panic disorder, social phobia, substance abuse, and adjustment disorders.
I provide diagnosis and therapy for adults and children with Bipolar, Depression and Anxiety and provide mental health assessments for ADHD. I also make recommendations for therapy, educational accommodations and medication referrals.
I conduct developmental screenings for Autism, Asperger's and PDD-nos, or Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) for ages 4 and older; results from a mental health assessment and ASD screening help substantiate the presence of ASD symptoms, which can lead to referral for comprehensive Autism assessment.
In therapy, I am warm, empathetic and empowering. Therapeutic goals are developed collaboratively using cognitive, behavioral and solution-focused therapies; interventions are creative and tailored to the individual’s unique strengths and abilities.
I work with parents and children as a team. For children, adolescents, and adult children living at home, diagnosed with ADHD, autism, and other conditions, therapeutic goals are developed collaboratively; each intervention strategy takes into account the strengths and abilities of the family and the child, to promote their successful implementation in the home.
I believe all individuals, regardless of disabilities or limitations, have the capacity to learn and grow. I advocate for children with learning and behavioral problems, including recommending and collaborating on individualized accommodations to promote learning. For nearly two decades, I have consulted with school personnel in 7 school districts in the development of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
For 15 years, I have worked in collaboration with physicians, psychiatrists, and psychiatric nurses providing medication management. If medication evaluation may be needed, I can provide referrals, and will do all I can to collaborate with medication providers during therapy.
